W.I.T Academy of Lean Enterprise Excellence

The Academy of Lean Enterprise Excellence is led by Darrin Taylor and Aidan Walsh, and involves a number of faculty who lecture and/or Lean Enterprise Research in areas related to Lean. It has as its senior advisor Professor Peter Hines, Visiting Professor at the RIKON Centre, Business School

The Academy brings together industry, policy and academia to develop high quality and actionable research that advances the literature on lean thinking and practice, and that can be applied within public and private organisations and across all services and manufacturing sectors to enable and sustain lean enterprise excellence.

University of Limerick 

UL offers a number of courses that deal with Lean.

Their specialist diploma in quality management six sigma aims to develop participants process improvement skills, and will provide education and practical application to a Black Belt level in six sigma.

Their MSc in Strategic Quality Mgt Lean Sigma Systems was designed in collaboration with leading Irish companies to create graduates with the understanding of and capability for both the theory and practical application of quality management tools and techniques, particularly in the areas of lean and six sigma. The course is ran over two years in four semesters.

UL offers a Professional Doctorate in Engineering, this four year programme touches on lean and is recognised by the Shingo Institute and lean enterprise academy association.

Institute of Technology Sligo (https://www.itsligo.ie)

IT Sligo deliver Ireland’s first and only free Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Lean Sigma Quality.  This seven-week online course has now been delivered to over 7,500 participants from Irish organisations.  The course consists of weekly online lectures, discussion boards, videos and quizzes which provides an introduction to the Lean and Six Sigma quality tools.

C.I.T

Cork Institute of technology offer a number of courses consisting of and related to Lean Operational excellence.

CIT is also home to the CAMMS institute (Centre for advanced Manufacturing and Management Systems. This is a continuing professional development centre within CIT dedicated to providing opportunities for workforce development and professional upskilling. CAMMS is currently developing thematic knowledge in the areas that reflect the strengths of the faculty, these include:

  • Quality, Lean, Six Sigma
  • Project Management
  • Control and Automation
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Biomedical Engineering

The Centre is an Associate Member of the International Institution for Production Engineering Research (CIRP) and a recognised training provider for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to Engineers Ireland. Tailored courses can be delivered at place of work or at CIT.

NUIG

NUIG possesses one of the foremost engineering faculties and facilities in Ireland, as a result of this NUIG has some specialised Lean courses and has published academic papers on this area. NUIG has also established and Enterprise Agility cluster, the goal of this project was to establish an Agile and Lean Network of Excellence.

UCD has varied comprehensive lean offerings. Amongst those offered there is a Professional Certificate and Graduate Diploma in Lean Healthcare at UCD Health Systems.
