National Biodiversity Week is all about connecting people with nature. It’s about communicating the importance of biodiversity and motivating people to play their part in protecting it.

It’s also about entertaining them, showing the fun and wonder that can be found in nature, and inspiring people to learn more, see more, do more.

Over the course of nine days, from 19th – 27th May 2018, over 50 free, family-friendly events will be taking place all over Ireland celebrating our diverse species and habitats.

What’s On?
From bat walks to urban bee-keeping, whale watching to fossil hunts, there is bound to be something for you during Biodiversity Week 2018. There are up to 50 free events taking place right across Ireland.

Biodiversity Photographer of the Year
Are you an amateur photographer? Would you like to be in with a chance to win up to €500 in cash prizes? Then enter the Biodiversity Photographer of the Year competition!

There are two photography competitions underway. The ‘Biodiversity Photographer of the Year’ competition is open to the general public and the ‘Young Biodiversity Photographer of the Year’ competition is open to secondary school students.

All entries must be taken in the month of May 2018 and submitted by the deadline of 31st May. More information and terms and conditions are available online.

International Day for Biological Diversity 2018
The theme for International Day for Biological Diversity 2018 is Celebrating 25 Years of Action for Biodiversity.

Focusing on how action for Biodiversity has changed over the past 25 years and the achievements of actions taken in the past 25 years. It is also important to reflect on the past 25 years to help develop new action goals for Biodiversity and to develop peoples’ understanding of the importance of sustainable goals.
