SMED/Rapid ChangeOvers

The time and effort required to complete changeovers in manufacturing processes is one of several drivers of "batch & queue” manufacturing with its associated high inventories and long leadtimes. Analytic tools and focused improvement activity can significantly reduce the changeover time, often to "single minutes”

Contents of the programme include: –

  • Significance of Change Over Time and EOQ
  • Analysis of Setup
  • Externalising Activities
  • Elimination/Reduction of Adjustments

Statistical Process Control (SPC)

Overview
The cost of quality is the expense of not doing things right first time, causing valuable resources to be spent finding and reworking defective products.

Statistical Process Control (SPC) eliminates this waste acting as a detection device to indicate when something is going wrong with the process. Superior Product Quality is achieved by identifying and resolving the causes of the process variation. SPC is an essential tool for companies implementing ISO 9001,TS 16949 and Six Sigma.

COURSE CONTENT

  • Why SPC? (Understanding process variation in plastics processing) Descriptive statistics
  • How to select appropriate control charts
  • Getting SPC started - how to set up SPC charts
  • Interpreting SPC charts
  • Process Capability (Cpk) analysis
  • AQL- sampling techniques, acceptance plans, ISO, MIL, ASQ standards
  • Why conduct gauge studies
  • How to plan, conduct and analyse gauge studies
  • Estimating of % tolerance and %R&R
  • Variable and attribute gauges
  • Overcoming barriers to successful implementation
  • Using SPC to drive your process

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Engineers, quality and operations personnel, who intend to introduce SPC, or who are required to maintain and enhance an existing system. Engineers concerned with process monitoring and product inspection. Those responsible for process improvements.

Statistical Tools for Root Cause Analysis

Are you struggling to find the root cause? Learn how to use Excel™ and Minitab™ to make statistics accessible and useable. Summarise data using key statistics and important graphical methods. Make better decisions about whether a variable has an effect or not by conducting significance tests such as t tests or F tests. Spot relationships between variables where they exist and discount them where they don’t by using regression analysis. Use ANOVA to identify which variables have an effect on critical to quality characteristics. Make better decisions.

Day 1 -
• Descriptive statistics
• Graphing techniques to spot differences
• Identifying relationships using regression

Day 2 -
• t tests to see differences in means
• F tests to see differences in variation
• Proportion tests to see if proportions differ
• Confidence intervals and how they impact sample size

COURSE DETAILS
The course will teach how statistics can be used to spot differences in data and contribute to tasks such as finding the root cause. It will be thought using either Minitab or Excel (to be agreed in advance) and the emphasis will be on what we can easily do.
